Flyers GM addresses Carter Hart's strange social media activity
On Thursday evening, Carter Hart puzzled fans around the NHL when he removed all affiliation with the Philadelphia Flyers from his personal Instagram account before switching his account to private.
The move struck the curiosity chord in many, leading to a lot of speculation as to what the social media change was about. Some had speculated that Hart was on the cusp of being traded. Others pondered whether it had something to do with the 2018 Canadian World Junior Championship team investigation and if Hart was somehow connected to the assault allegations in some way. The truth of the matter is, we won't know one way or another until the results of the investigation are revealed. We do, however, know that Hart was among those who issued a statement claiming no involvement whatsoever.
Flyers GM Danny Briere revealed to the media on Friday that he had spoken to Hart about the social media profile change and that there's really "nothing to it".
"Regarding Carter Hart privatizing his Instagram+removing the Philadelphia Flyers from the account, GM Danny Briere says there's nothing to it, that he talked to Hart, who's excited for this coming Flyers season, and that, as of now, he expects him to be at camp and ready to go. - Eric Engels
Hart's peculiar social media activity might have flown under the radar if not for multiple other members of the 2018 Canadian WJC team also setting their accounts to private, including Brett Howden and Dillon Dube.
We have no reason not to take Briere at his word here, so, at least for now, we can lay the Carter Hart chatter to rest until such a time as more information becomes available.
