Sportsnet hockey insider Elliotte Friedman recently had some interesting reporting on Brad Marchand and his contract negotiations with the Boston Bruins.

Overall, Friedman's reporting was very straight forward on the matter. Essentially, he made the claim that Marchand and the Bruins were inching towards a three-year deal that would keep the captain with the team for the medium-term. However, when asked about the report from Friedman, Marchand turned around and said that it was completely false.

Friedman is known around the league as one of the most trusted reporters out there. He is always honest and he has numerous sources within every team. Having said that, many fans were shocked that Friedman would be accused of having a false source or spreading "fake news."

Friedman saw that Marchand had commented on his report, and he sought to clear the air. In a new report, Friedman concedes that while the Bruins and Marchand are talking to each other, the terms of the deal could be shorter than three seasons. In fact, an impending contract might only be for one or two years.

Whatever the case may be, there is no denying that Friedman takes a lot of pride in his reporting. If a player comes out and says he is spreading false information, then you know he will have something to say about that. No matter what, it will be fascinating to see where this all goes with Marchand.
