Mitch Marner was in Toronto today to watch Auston Matthews get sworn in as captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Of course, Matthews took the job from none other than John Tavares. That said, it seems like Tavares had no problem bestowing the honor upon his teammate. As for Marner, he was given an opportunity by reporters to discuss his future in Toronto.

Unfortunately, for Leafs fans, Marner did not give a very confident answer. Instead, his comments may actually force you to take a step back and contemplate whether Marner is having trepidation about a contract extension. If anything, this answer is probably going to cause even more speculation than we saw before.

"I'm not going to get into that too much today," Marner said. "I'm just going to say I love being here, I've said that from Day 1. I'm very fortunate and lucky to be a Maple Leaf. Today is about these two amazing people."

Only time will tell what happens between the Maple Leafs and Marner. If something goes disastrously wrong this season, then his time with the franchise could be up. However, if Matthews can lead the team to a Stanley Cup, then the core will have to stay together.

Do you believe Marner will stay in Toronto? Let us know in the poll below. Additionally, stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
