John Tavares' family reacts to Auston Matthews becoming Maple Leafs captain

Consequently, John Tavares is being stripped of the honor. Overall, it remains to be seen how he truly feels about all of this. He was in attendance at the press conference today, here he passed the figurative torch over to Matthews. That said, some believe this could be the beginning of the end of Tavares' reign in the city of Toronto.

Thankfully, it seems as though Tavares and his family are taking well to all of this. Tavares' parents were in attendance for the press conference, as were his children. In fact, his kids were all wearing Matthews jerseys.

Needless to say, there is no ill will between Matthews and Tavares right now. After all, they need to be cordial if they want to go out and win a Stanley Cup next season. Only time will tell whether or not any of this was the right move.
