Report confirms that Alex Galchenyuk has a new contract in place for next season
It has been a rollercoaster of a few years for Alex Galchenyuk, but this year in particular has been a rough one for the journeyman forward. After bouncing around a bit the last few seasons, he signed a 1-year deal in early July with the Arizona Coyotes, before having his contract terminated due to an arrest on multiple charges, including hit and run causing property damage and resisting arrest just a couple weeks later. Now, it looks like Galchenyuk has found a new home for next season. Unfortunately for him, it's not in the NHL.
According to Puck Empire and KHL transfer RU, Galchenyuk has officially agreed to terms with Spartak Moscow, which will have him playing next season in the KHL.
The 29-year-old played most of last season in the AHL, appearing in just 11 games for the Colorado Avalanche in 2022-23. He registered no points over that span.
This one comes as a bit of a shock, considering that he claimed to want to remain in North America and enter the NHL/NHLPA's Player Assistance Program. Hopefully he can continue to get the help he needs overseas.
