Pierre Dorion hands 64 million dollar contract to player with 4 career NHL goals
With great risk can come great rewards. The limitations of the NHL salary cap also forces teams to get creative. Tonight Pierre Dorion took a big swing in locking down a key member of his teams core.
The Ottawa Senators made the announcement that they had come to terms on an 8-year extension with Jake Sanderson. The deal pays Sanderson $8,050,000 per season and makes him the 5th member of the Sens to break the 8 million dollar mark.
The #sens have signed Jake Sanderson to an eight-year extension carrying a $8.05M AAV.
This is a lot of money for a player who has only played 77 NHL games. In his career Sanderson has only scored 4 goals and 28 assists. With the salary cap climbing the Sens are betting big on their homegrown talent to help get them to the next level, but this contract has the ability to be a huge miss if Sanderson's development slows it be peaks early.
