Kasperi Kapanen Reportedly arrested for aggravated drunk driving
Kasperi Kapenen was a first round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Unfortunately Kapanen hasn't found the expected success that was predicted for him. Kapanen is now a member of the St. Louis Blues.
Today news broke that Kapanen is facing serious legal trouble in his home country of Finland. According to Yle.fi, Kapanen is the suspect in an alleged drunk driving case.
Yle states court documents were filed on August 23rd, and the case won't be heard in court until February of 2024.
"The prosecutor will not comment to Yle on the course of events before the case becomes public in the court hearing in February. Yle has not been able to reach Kapas or his agent Markus Lehto for comment. - Yle.fi Yle says the charge in the case is aggravated drunk driving.
"Drunk driving is aggravated if the driver's blood alcohol concentration is at least 1.2 per mille or he has at least 0.53 milligrams of alcohol per liter of blood while driving.
You are also guilty of aggravated drunk driving if you have used, for example, intoxicating substances in such a way that your ability to drive is noticeably impaired, and the circumstances are such that the crime is capable of causing a danger to the safety of another person."
Kapanen has played 387 games since being drafted. He has scored 78 goals and 186 points. Despite being drafted by the Pens, he was then traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he spent four seasons before being traded back to Pittsburgh. He was placed on waivers in 2022-23 and picked up by the St. Louis Blues. Kapanen is in the final season of his current contract, with a cap hit of $3.2 million.
