Bruins reportedly very keen on acquiring this young Senators prospect
The Ottawa Senators made headlines on Wednesday night when they announced an 8-year extension for 21-year-old Jake Sanderson, worth an astounding $8.05M per season. Now, they're linked to an Atlantic Division rival in a trade rumour.
Per Boston Hockey Now's Jimmy Murphy, the Bruins have shown an interest in acquiring young Sens forward Shane Pinto. The restricted free agent has yet to sign with the Sens and the two sides are reportedly far apart in contract talks. If the Sens decide to move him, the Bruins are expected to push hard to acquire him.
Murphy suggested that a big reason for Pinto's name showing up in trade talks is because the Ottawa Senators are very high on another prospect in the pipeline in Ridly Greig. If the Sens do decide to deal Pinto, they're reportedly looking for a prospect that's close to taking that next step and playing in the NHL, with Murphy mentioning John Beecher or Fabian Lysell in Boston.
Pinto, a New York native, had a strong rookie season in the NHL during the 2022-23 campaign, putting up 35 points (20 goals, 15 assists), 18 penalty minutes and was a minus-21 in 82 games.
