After signing a 5 year contract worth $25,000,000, Jack Campbell failed to live up to expectations. The 31-year-old goaltender found himself relegated to a backup role by the midway point of his first season in Edmonton.

For the 1st half of the season, Campbell posted a GAA of nearly 4.00, and a save percentage well below .900, along with zero shutouts. While his numbers were poor Campbell still posted a record of 21-9-4. Campbell finished the season with a 3.41 GAA, .888 save percentage and found himself on the bench for the players.

Heading into the 2023-2024 season Campbell will get a chance to redeem himself but he will reportedly not have a lot of ripe. According to Allan Mitchell of The Athletic, if Campbell struggles early the Oilers have already decided that they'll move on from the goaltender.

Ken Holland will be in tough if he tries to find a trade partner for a struggling Campbell, with four years remaining with a cap hit of $5M, the Oilers may have to sweeten the pot to get out from under this contract.

Time will tell how things go for Edmonton and Campbell but one thing is certain if Jack doesn't find his game, he won't be back.
