Former Toronto Maple Leafs player loses battle with cancer
Sad news came from the NHL Alumnus today. It was announced that former Toronto Maple Leafs player Brad Maxwell has passed away.
His family revealed the news:
We want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to us during this difficult time. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Brad «Maxy» Maxwell on September 3rd, 2023. Those who knew him were truly lucky, and he will be deeply missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers." said his family on his GoFundMe page.
Maxwell, 66 at the time of his passing, had been fighting a battle with lung cancer. Unfortunately the cancer had spread throughout his body.
Maxwell's family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover the out-of-pocket expenses involved in the treatment that Maxwell was undergoing.
Maxwell was drafted 7th overall during the 1977 NHL draft. Maxwell nearly won a Stanley Cup making it to the 1981 Stanley Cup Finals. Maxwells' North Stars ended up losing to the New York Islanders in five games.
Maxwell played 612 games with the North Stars, Nordiques, Maple Leafs and Rangers. In his career he scored 98 goals and 368 points.
