Patrik Laine of the Montreal Canadiens went down with a bad knee injury on Saturday night after a knee-on-knee hit from Cedric Pare of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Laine immediately went down in pain and it was a pretty brutal sight to behold. The entire Bell Centre fell silent and fans were absolutely distraught by what had taken place. After all, Laine is trying to make a comeback and a major injury would completely derail everything that he has been working hard to rebuild.

According to reports out of Montreal, when Laine left the game, he did so on crutches. Today, the NHL star is going to be evaluated so that they can fully diagnosis whatever it is he may have wrong with him. That said, the fact that he was on crutches is certainly going to make a lot of fans uneasy.

Following Pare's hit, he was treated like a ragdoll by Arber Xhekaj. It was quite the sight and Xhekaj is even being compared to Todd Bertuzzi for what he did. Some are calling for Xhekaj to be suspended. That said, it remains to be seen what the NHL is going to do here. Right now, the priority is the health of Laine.

Hopefully, the injury is not serious and Laine can come back sooner rather than later. You never like to see guys go down in this fashion. Even when accidental, knee-on-knee hits are dirty and you need to do better when positioning yourself on the ice.
