Patrik Laine was hit hard by Cedric Pare of the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight and it was a knee-on-knee hit that had the Bell Centre shaken up.

The hit looked accidental but it was dirty all of the same. Following the collision, Laine found himself on the ground where he was writing in paid. Eventually, he got up and was helped to the locker room. On his way to the locker room, he threw his gloves and helmet in a fit of agony. Needless to say, the whole scene was scary and fans were horrified.

Doctor Harjas Grewal on Twitter came through with some theories on what his injury could be. Dr. Grewal has proven to be a fantastic resource when it comes to this kind of thing. That said, Habs fans will be mortified by some of the worst case scenarios here. For instance, there is a possibility that the Habs superstar cooked his ACL. That would mean his season is over.

"Concerns for Laine are as follows

Torn ACL (season over)
Torn MCL (depends on grade)
Torn meniscus (4-6 weeks if trimmed, 4+ months if repaired)
Bone bruise (week-to-week)

Can be just 1, multiple or all of the above injuries

Exam is helpful but MRI tomorrow will clarify"

Hopefully, the injury is one of the less serious ones. It would be absolutely devastating if Laine missed an entire season because of this. However, it does go to show that hockey is a dangerous game in which anything can happen. Good or bad.
