Just in: The Washington Capitals have inked a three-year deal with 24-year-old goaltender Clay Stevenson, valuing at $775,000 per season.

Stevenson boasts an impressive 9-4-0 record, a stellar 1.70 goals-against average, a .934 save percentage, and four shutouts in 13 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) this season. Currently leading the AHL in goals-against average and shutouts, he's second in save percentage and tied for third in wins.

The undrafted talent from Drayton Valley, Alberta, solidifies himself as the Capitals' third-string netminder behind Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren. Stevenson is proving his NHL potential, ranking among the AHL's top goaltenders this season. Anticipate seeing him in NHL action during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Washington Capitals, under the leadership of president and general manager Brian MacLellan, have secured goaltender Clay Stevenson for a three-year contract totaling $2.325 million. The initial year features a two-way contract ($750,000/$200,000), transitioning to one-way contracts ($775,000) in the subsequent two years.

Stevenson's standout AHL performance includes a 9-4-0 record, 1.70 goals-against average, .934 save percentage, and four shutouts in 13 games with the Hershey Bears this season. His stellar stats position him at the forefront of AHL goaltending rankings.

Standing at 6'4" and weighing 185 pounds, Stevenson's previous season with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) showcased a commendable record of 19-12-3. Additionally, he impressed in five Kelly Cup Playoff games with a 2-1-2 record, 2.11 goals-against average, and .926 save percentage.

Stevenson's AHL debut with Hershey in 2022-23 saw him go 3-0-0 with a 1.96 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. Since signing with the Capitals in 2022, Stevenson has demonstrated his prowess in 16 AHL games with a record of 12-4-0, a 1.75 goals-against average, a .932 save percentage, and four shutouts.

Previously joining the Capitals through a two-year entry-level contract in March 2022, Stevenson excelled at Dartmouth College, earning recognition on the 2021-22 All-Ivy First Team, ECAC All-Rookie Team, and ECAC Third All-Star Team. He claimed Dartmouth's MVP title, securing six of the team's seven wins during the 2021-22 season. Stevenson's consistent performance, with a save percentage above .900 in all 23 games, contributed to his impressive college career.
