Tampa Bay Lightning surprise fans by placing two-time Stanley Cup winner on Waivers

Back in 2023, the Tampa Bay Lightning signed Conor Sheary to a three-year deal at $2 million AAV which isn't a whole lot of money when you think about it.

At the time, Sheary was a two-time Stanley Cup champion and had logged over 200 points in over 500 games. However, last season, Sheary was not living up to his deal all that much. Sure, he was only making $15 million, however, fans expected him to be doing better than just 15 points worth of production. At the end of the day, NHL players should be able to swing just a bit more production.

To start the season, Sheary has not gotten that much better. Despite the team's hot 4-2 start, Sheary has continued to struggle. Today, the Lightning decided to take action nd officially put Sheary on waivers.

For a lot of fans, this is going to come as a pretty shocking move. At the end of the day, Sheary is a two-time Cup winner and you would think the Lightning could still use him. However, it seems like they want to see if a team might want to take him. If not, then Sheary will go down to the AHL where he can attempt to work his way back up to the Show.

These are the harsh realities that come with playing in the NHL. One day you are in the NHL and the next day, you are not. Hopefully, Sheary will be able to figure it out and get himself back in the league.
