Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers is one of the heaviest hitters in the entire NHL and Montreal Canadiens player Justin Barron found that out the hard way last night.

In case you did not see it, there is a pretty good demonstration of the hit, below. Barron was coming up the win trying to break the Rangers zone. Once he got over the blue line, Trouble lined up a massive hit with put his elbow right in Barron's chest. The Habs played dropped to the ground and it was a heavy thud, to say the least.

Following the hit, there was a pretty big debate on social media about whether or not this hit was something that should be punished. Some fans out there actually felt like it was pretty dirty. Meanwhile, there were other fans who thought it was a fair play and something that is just part of the game.

ESPN hockey reporter Greg Wyshynski revealed earlier today that the NHL is not going to be taking any action against Trouba. They reviewed the hit and deemed it to be completely legal. That is probably for the best.

It is always difficult to see a player go down with an injury, especially with the case of Barron where they have a history of concussions. Having said that, this is hockey, and you need to let the players make big hits, otherwise, the whole point of the sport is then lost.
