Jake Guentzel explains how he was betrayed by Kyle Dubas
Last season, he was looking for a new contract and he was eager to come back to the Penguins. However, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes instead. In free agency, Guentzel ended up signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he will play for a bonafide title contender. However, he still has some hurt feelings about what happened.
While speaking to The Athletic, Guentzel made it very clear that his intention was to always return to Pittsburgh.
"Staying in Pittsburgh was always the goal," he said. "That's very fair to say. I told Hank at the beginning of last year, 'Let's get something done. This is where I want to be.'"
Guentzel acknowledges that it is a business, but you can't help but feel like he feels a bit used up after what took place. He really thought Pittsburgh would be his home forever. Instead, that was taken from him.
"You realize that it's a business really fast."
The best revenge is winning. If Guentzel can go out and win, then there is a real path for him to stick it in Kyle Dubas' face. Only time will tell whether or not that is going to be possible.
