Carey Price is one of the best goaltenders to ever strap on the pads for the Montreal Canadiens, and now, fans are wondering if it is time to retire his jersey number.

Back in 2014-15, Price won the Vezina trophy as the NHL's best goalie. Subsequently, he won the Hart trophy for being the MVP of the league. However, the one knock on his career is that he never won a Stanley Cup. He made it to the Finals back in 2021, but he was not able to get across the finish line.
While speaking on The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro, Habs reporter Brian Wilde was asked if Price is deserving of a jersey retirement. Wilde delivered a harsh reality with his hot take, noting that Price simply does not fit the standard.

Brian Wilde gives his Carey Price take

"I think the standard of the Canadiens is Cups or many, many years of trophies, and he has only one of each and no Cups," Wilde said. "And that's simply, for me, not enough."

This is one of those debates that will likely take place for quite a while. After all, Habs fans are very passionate, and they love Carey Price. Although as Wilde notes, perhaps the best place for him right now is the Ring of Honor. It's one tier below having a jersey retired, and it still speaks to a player's legend status. Only time will tell what the Habs decide.
Do you agree with Brian Wilde that the Habs should not retire Carey Price's jersey? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
