Barry Trotz responds to Yaroslav Askarov's trade request

Kevin Weekes reported on how Askarov was refusing to report to the team's AHL affiliate in Milwaukee. Despite playing the better part of two seasons out in Milwaukee, Askarov felt like now was the time to take a stand and make his feelings crystal clear. Since the request, the ball has been in Trotz' court, and according to Predators reporter John Glennon, he has taken his shot.

As per the tweet above, Trotz will not be trading Askarov, at least not anytime soon. Instead, he is urging his goaltender to come to training camp and compete for a spot, just like everyone else. These statements are quite common whenever a trade request is made. At the end of the day, teams want to make it seem like they have all of the power and leverage. This does not reverse the fact that Askarov has been in trade rumors all summer long.

Askarov was the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and has only played a couple of games for the Predators. He has looked impressive in those games and fans were excited for his future. Now, however, it appears apparent that Askarov does not see Nashville as a place that will allow him to develop, long-term.
