After defeating the Edmonton Oilers in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final, the Florida Panthers are still the favorites to win the Stanley Cup in 2024. However, after failing to finish the series, frustration is starting to set in. Bill Zito, general manager of the Panthers, was obviously not pleased.
With less than 20 seconds remaining in game 5, with the Oilers leading 4-3, Connor McDavid scored an empty net goal to secure the deal and send the series back to Alberta with the Panthers leading 3-2. Zito's response to McDavid's goal probably gives us a decent idea of how his guys are feeling at the moment.
The Oilers are hoping to do something that hasn't been done in the NHL since the 1940s: come back from a 3-0 deficit in the final to win the Stanley Cup. Few gave them much of a chance after Florida's third straight win, but things have changed after winning the last two.
Fans who want to attend Friday night's Game 6 of the series at Rogers Place in Edmonton will regret not packing some sort of ear protection. It's anyone's series if the Oilers can win one more, and by then, Edmonton will be fully in control of the series.
