The Spirit entered their final game against the perennial powerhouse in the Knights with their backs against the wall, having advanced to the final after defeating the OHL's London Knights, the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors, and the QMJHL's Drummondville Voltigeurs. But as luck would have it, they managed to win and celebrated in a ridiculously amazing way.
It is important to note that several of these hockey players competed in their final game at the junior hockey level; as such, their celebrations ought to be allowed to take whatsoever form they like. On the other hand, crowding into your net is as novel as I have ever seen.
It's not something to sneeze at, defeating the London Knights, their OHL Western Conference rivals and perhaps the best club in the whole Canadian Hockey League, and becoming just the sixth American team to win the Memorial Cup. Saginaw's victory made them the twelfth host team to win the competition.
