Late in the game last night, with the Edmonton Oilers behind, Leon Draisaitl whacked Sacha Barkov in the head with an apparent dubious hit. During the action, the forward stepped off the ground and struck the Panthers captain in the face with an arm.
The hit does not warrant additional penalty, according to a determination released today by the league's Department of Player Safety. Rather, the league believed that Sam Carrick's spear was the sole play from the contest that merited examination.
Carrick has been fined by the league for his actions, but more plays from the game will not be examined. This includes the major needing penalty that Warren Foegele received in the first half.
Elliotte Friedman tweeted his confirmation that no more penalties will be applied.
Now the question remains, did the league get this right?
