An insider has provided an update on the contracts of the 4 players involved in the 2018 Hockey Canada scandal and if they'll receive qualifying offers.

The ongoing controversy surrounding Hockey Canada 2018 World Junior Team, has captured media attention for months. Notably, four players from that team are still under NHL contracts and after failed negotiations they will have the option to sign new deals with their current teams if qualified offers are made.

However, Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Michael MacLeod will become unrestricted free agents tonight at 5 PM if they are not tendered qualifying offers, as reported by TSN's Chris Johnston.

Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Michael MacLeod, however, become unrestricted free agents tonight if they are not eligible by a 5 PM, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.

Sources say there is no change to the NHL rights of the Canadian world junior players charged with sexual assault.

That means Dillon Dubé (CGY), Carter Hart (PHI), Michael McLeod (NJ) and Cal Foote (NJ) will become UFA's if not tendered a qualifying offer by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Here's a rewritten version with a slightly more formal tone:

The four players are currently ineligible to play in the NHL. However, it's possible that some teams may attempt to retain their rights. If they are not tendered qualifying offers, they will become unrestricted free agents and can still sign NHL contracts.

Nevertheless, given the ongoing investigation, it's unlikely that teams that didn't previously hold their rights would extend contract offers, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding their situation.
