Gary Bettman And The NHL Implement Major Changes To This Rule
NHL general managers are currently gathered in Florida, tackling a variety of topics that are stirring up the league. Among the significant discussions, Darren Dreger reports a groundbreaking adjustment to the coach's challenge rules is on the horizon.
In an effort to quell the controversy surrounding video reviews and coach's challenges that has bubbled up over recent seasons, the league is set to introduce a change. Coaches will soon have the power to challenge penalties for pucks that are sent over the glass and incidents of high-sticking that involve players being struck by their own team's stick.
Dreger shares, "Rule tweaks in the NHL. Puck over glass will eventually be a Coaches Challenge to remove penalty as will «Friendly Fire» high stick penalties. Other small changes also expected. These are recommendations that go to the competition committee and then to board for final approval."
This move represents a significant shift in how games will be officiated, aiming to enhance fairness and accuracy in penalty calls.
