Last season, Connor McDavid became the first NHLer since the late 90's to score at least 150 points in a season, finishing the 2022-23 campaign with 153 points. While that feat in and of itself was impressive, one of the NHL's elite superstars believes that McDavid can raise the bar yet again this season.

Sidney Crosby sat down with NHL.com's Mike Zeisberger this weekend and had stated that he wouldn't bet against 170 points as a possibility for McDavid. When asked whether he believed McDavid would hit 170 in 2023-24, here's what Sid had to say:

"I mean, I didn't think 150 was going to be in the cards for him but he found a way to get there," Crosby said. "So, I don't think anything is out of the question for him as far as numbers are concerned."

"He just finds a way to find another level time and time again, so I would never bet against him."

The last time a player in the National Hockey League recorded 170 or more points in a single season was Mario Lemieux, who had 199 in 76 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1988-89, which will be 35 years ago next spring, when this campaign comes to an end.

McDavid is the best player alive, but it seems pretty wild to suggest that 170 is in the cards. Still, who are we to argue with someone like Crosby?
