Colorado Avalanche Valeri Nichushkin met with the media yesterday for the first time since he mysteriously left the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round. Nichushkin wanted to move past the question as quick as possible when asked, simply replying that it was due to 'family reasons'.

A new detail in the story raises even more questions.

During the Avs first round series against the Seattle Kraken, Nichushkin was suddenly taken to the airport with a security guard and whisked away. Later, a police report listing Nichushkin's name stated officers attended a scene after a 9-1-1 call, and found a very intoxicated woman with a physician who worked for the Colorado Avalanche. The doctor, Bradley Changstrom, reportedly called for help as he believed the woman was simply too drunk to take a cab or rideshare home. It was revealed today that the physician no longer works for the team, and no one will say anything further about it.

"Changstrom is no longer one of the UC Health employees working as Avalanche team physicians, the team confirmed Thursday. Changstrom is still employed by UC Health. An Avalanche spokesperson did not comment on whether Changstrom, the team or UC Health made the decision for him not to return to the team this season."

Chances are we will never know the full story of what happened that night in April and thats exactly how Nichushkin, the Colorado Avalanche and NHL want to keep it.
