The news was first reported by Buffalo area reporter Mike Harrington provided the following information via his Twitter page.
BREAKING: It is my sad duty to report that Hall of Fame broadcaster Rick Jeanneret, the legendary play-by-play man of the #Sabres, has died this evening. The team has confirmed the news.
Jeanneret was one of the most popular play-by-play callers in the league and he will be deeply missed by the hockey community. Jeanneret was known for some of his legendary calls, like the May Day call.
Rest in peace to a legend.
