After setting the NHL record for the most points by a team in a single season with 135 points, the reigning Presidents Trophy winning Bruins are now in a difficult spot. After the retirement of the team's two top centers in Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, the Bruins have turned to the trade market to try and find replacements.

Unfortunately for Boston, they've come up empty-handed this summer. At last year's trade deadline, the Bruins spent a lot of their draft capital in an attempt to bolster their roster in an attempt to win another Stanley Cup. The quest for the cup fell short, losing in 7 games in the first round to the Florida Panthers after blowing a 3-1 series lead.

Per reporter Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet, the Bruins have significant interest in Winnipeg Jets top center, Mark Scheifele. Unfortunately, however, they are unable to get a deal done due to a lack of assets and cap space. For the Bruins, this is a disappointing turn of events.

This may very well end up being a disappointing season in Boston, but Wiebe did go on to say that if Scheifele does make it to free agency next summer, he expects the Bruins to be at the top of his destination wish-list. With teams having a lot more flexibility in the summer and with the Bruins not having an abundance of cap space tied up in bonus overages next summer, the move may become more viable then.

The Bruins are running out of time to address their significant roster needs this summer, but there's still some time to work with here, so we probably shouldn't count them out before we see the full picture.
