The Ottawa Senators appear to be a team on the cusp of taking the next step. Despite being one of the league's most promising young teams, it was clear that Alex DeBrincat had zero interest in remaining in Senator after just a year with the team. An Insider has now revealed why.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun revealed the reason in a recent column, DeBrincat was not happy with his role with the team and basically forced the Senators' hand.

"DeBrincat made it impossible for the Senators to bring him back and even more difficult to trade him to anywhere but the Detroit Red Wings."

"Sources say he didn't like his role as a second-line winger behind captain Brady Tkachuk. If that's the case then DeBrincat really did have to go." - Bruce Garrioc, Ottawa Sun

DeBrincat is a native of Michigan, so a trade to the Detroit Red Wings certainly makes sense. But his reasoning seems extremely flawed. There is no world where DeBrincat should be playing ahead of Brady Tkachuk, and this just shows the kind of teammate DeBrincat is.

Hopefully for the sake of the Wings DeBrincat doesn't find himself on lin 2 or all bets are off. Shortly after the trade, DeBrincat signed a new four-year extension with Detroit with $7.875 million per season.
