Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames are looking to get back into the playoffs this season after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign. Flames GM Craig Conroy is very familiar with Treliving, as Treliving was the former GM in Calgary as well. We have yet to see a deal between these two teams, but is the wait about to be over? One rumour site believes it is.
Per Eklund of HockeyBuzz.com, the Flames and Leafs may be working on a blockbuster deal as we speak.
As with any information coming from a rumour site, we shouldn't put a ton of stock into this. If it happens, great. But it's far more likely that nothing will come from this situation - especially when it comes to a potential deal involving William Nylander.
Just this week, Treliving had spoken with The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun about working with Nylander's camp to get a deal done to keep the Swedish sniper in Toronto. The two sides seem to agree that there is no rush to get an extension done, as Nylander still has a year remaining on his contract. Still, the Leafs likely don't want to have to negotiate extensions for all of Nylander, Marner, Tavares, Knies, Samsonov and others all in the same summer.
