Yesterday it was announced that Vladimir Tarasenko had signed a 1-year contract with the Ottawa Senators. Tarasenko had sat on the market since July 1st and many wondered what was taking so long for him to find a new team. It was reported that the 31-year-old came close to a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes and then changed his mind on the advice of his agent, who he later fired.

Tarasenko's new deal pays him $5,000,000 for next season, an amount he likely wouldn't have received from anyone else. But it appears the Senators offer wasn't the only offer Tarasenko received. According to The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford, before deciding to sign with the Ottawa Senators, Tarasenko turned down contracts from the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and the San Jose Sharks.

Tarasenko was traded at last season's Trade Deadline to the New York Rangers after spending 11 seasons with the St. Louis Blues. Tarasenko's numbers were down last season from his standards, having scored only 18 goals and adding 32 assists. Tarasenko will hopefully make up for some of the offense lost by trading Alex DeBrincat earlier this summer.
If this move isn't successful the Summer of Dorion 2.0, might finally be his last as the Senators General Manager.
