For most hockey players there are two major goals, making the NHL and representing your country on the biggest stage of all. For Bobby Butler, the 36-year-old was able to accomplish both of those things.

Butler played 12 seasons of professional hockey and was able to represent the United States at the 2018 Winter Olympics. After all of those accomplishments, Butler has made the difficult decision of announcing his retirement.

Butler began his career as a member of the Ottawa Senators and played there for parts of three seasons. Butler went on and made stops with the New Jersey Devils, Nashville Predators and the Florida Panthers before leaving the NHL. Butler spent the 2014/15 season in the AHL before making the trip to Europe where he'd play with MODO of the Swedish league. Butler then played with two KHL teams before returning to North America in 2017.

The 36-year-old was named to the United States 2018 Olympic roster after a very good start to the AHL season. Butler took time off between 2019 and 2022 to work as the Director of Hockey Operations for the Worcester Jr. Railers and as a volunteer assistant coach for Holy Cross.

Butler made his pro hockey return in January 2022, signing with the ECHL's Worcester Railers. He played there until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Congratulations to Bobby Butler on a lengthy professional hockey career and all the best in retirement!
