Ex-NHLer looking to make a return to the league this season
For a veteran player, once he departs the NHL to pursue an opportunity overseas, it can be a real challenge to find his way back. After spending the 2022-23 season with the Swiss-A league's SC Bern, longtime NHL forward Tyler Ennis is reportedly looking to return to North America.
Reporter Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal said in a post on Twitter on Friday that Ennis was at a summer camp hosted by a former NHL coach and that he may be getting a professional tryout contract from a western conference team.
"Tyler Ennis was at Perry Pearn's 3-on-3 camp and hearing he might get PTO, maybe from Western based team. Still has irons in fire back in Switzerland where he played last season." Matheson said.
Ennis, 33, left North America last summer after playing 13 seasons in the NHL, split between the Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators.
The Edmonton native had a strong season with SC Bern in Switzerland, recording 33 points (13 goals, 20 assists) in 37 games and followed that up with three points in five playoff games. Will it be enough to earn himself another shot in the NHL? We'll soon find out.
