Brandon Sutter makes major announcement after missing two full seasons with long COVID

It's been two seasons since Brandon Sutter laced up his skates and played an NHL game. Sutter missed this time due to symptoms of long COVID. For awhile it seemed like his career was over, but now 13-year veteran Brandon Sutter is looking to return to playing in the NHL.

Tuesday night, Bob Stauffer reported that Sutter will be joining the Edmonton Oilers on a professional try-out contract (PTO) for training camp and pre-season.

Sutter, who is from Huntington, New York, last played in the NHL for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2020-21 season, playing 43 games.

The 34-year-old has played 770 games in the NHL for Carolina, Pittsburgh and Vancouver. In his career he has 289 points (152 goals, 137 assists), 149 penalty minutes and is a minus-21. Sutter also has 18 points in 50 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

After a tough couple of years, it'll be interesting to see how Sutter performs as he tries to make a return.
