New York Rangers Veteran Forward Suffers Career Ending Injury
New York Rangers fans received unfortunate news as one of their beloved forwards appeared to suffer a significant injury during tonight's game.
Blake Wheeler Exits Ice with Apparent Knee Injury
The 37-year-old forward seemed to injure his right knee during a play along the boards. Upon closer inspection, his knee appeared to hyperextend behind him, and later, when attempting to stand, his ankle seemed to give way as he put weight on it.
"Blake Wheeler had to leave the ice after this hit by Struble. Didn't look good. Watch his right leg."
"Blake Wheeler has gone off the ice after this play."
Wheeler Faces Potential Career-Threatening Injury
With teammates assisting him off the ice, Wheeler couldn't bear weight on his right leg, signaling a potentially serious injury. Given his age, such an injury could jeopardize his career, possibly sidelining him for the remainder of the season.
Moreover, as he's on a one-year deal with the Rangers, this incident may mark his final NHL game. Wheeler has accumulated 9 goals and 21 points in 51 games this season and boasts an impressive career record of 321 goals and 943 points across 1171 games.
