NHL waiver news made headlines on Thursday as two players hit the wire, with one of them facing contract termination.
First up, the Washington Capitals have waived 25-year-old forward Matthew Phillips. Phillips, who previously played in the Calgary Flames organization, has appeared in 27 games with the Caps this season, tallying 1 goal and 5 points.

In another move, the Vegas Golden Knights have waived their 22-year-old draft pick, Marcus Kallionkieli, with the intention of terminating his contract. Although Kallionkieli has yet to make his NHL debut, he has gained experience with the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL and the Savannah Ghost Pirates in the ECHL. Currently, he is playing in Finland's Mestis Hockey League for Kiekko-Espoo.
