On Friday night, the annual draft of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League took place, and a significant exchange involving the first pick took place.
The Quebec Remparts have acquired the 2024 first overall pick from the Cape Breton Eagles, according to a post made by the QMJHL on X. The Eagles received goaltender Louca Connolly (born in 2007), the fourth overall pick in 2024, a second round pick in 2024, and a first round pick in 2026 in exchange.
The Quebec Remparts took the stage shortly after the league confirmed the transaction and used the first overall pick to choose Maddox Dagenais. Pierre, Maddox's father, played in 142 NHL games for Montreal, Florida, and New Jersey.
Playing for the Quinte Red Devils this season, Dagenais, 16, lit up the OMHA U16 AAA category. He scored 81 points (42 goals, 39 assists) in 35 games.
