The Boston Bruins need someone who can play in their top six forward group, possibly next to David Pastrnak, and some secondary scoring. The Carolina Hurricanes, on the other hand, must address their goaltender position if they hope to contend for a Stanley Cup after 2025 and beyond.
Elliotte Friedman stated on The Jeff Marek Show on Thursday that although the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens are interested in Martin Necas, he doesn't think either team possesses what the Carolina Hurricanes are seeking for—which is probably goaltender help—but that hasn't been confirmed.
When the latter questioned what Boston possesses that Carolina wants, Marek and Friedman exchanged questions about the Bruins and Hurricanes and whether they could come to an agreement. Marek then brought up goalie Linus Ullmark, who, upon becoming eligible on July 1st, may waive his no-trade clause and sign an extension with the acquiring team.
The Bruins and Hurricanes appear to be the ideal combination to pull off a blockbuster trade in the upcoming weeks, either during the NHL Entry Draft or in early July around the start of the free agency window, for the reasons Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek noted above.
