Jonathan Marchessault claims Vegas tried to sign him to 'deferred' contract

Jonathan Marchessault fired back at Vegas Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon's after his comments on contract negotiations.

The war of words between Jonathan Marchessault and Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon continues. Marchessault, who signed a five-year contract with the Nashville Predators after failing to come to terms with Vegas, stated that the Golden Knights did not make a significant effort to keep him. McCrimmon responded by saying Marchessault's claims were untrue.

Marchessault, the 2023 Conn Smythe Trophy winner, expressed his appreciation for his time with the Golden Knights in an Instagram post but seems to be moving on from the feud. The departure of Marchessault, along with other key players, may have an impact on the Golden Knights' on-ice performance in the upcoming season.

"McCrimmon says 'this couldn't be further from the truth' and he 'disagrees' with it. Chalked it up to Marchessault being a fiery guy."

Marchessault has now responded to McCrimmon, saying that while he was offered the same money and term from Vegas, that it was under different terms.

"Jonathan Marchessault told @1025TheGame this morning the offer from Vegas was for the same amount as Nashville, but it was deferred money.

'It was not a traditional offer.'"

Marchessault shared it feels like McCrimmon and Golden Knights President George MacPhee were concerned about how old he would be at the end of a new deal.

"I talked to George (McPhee) and Kelly (McCrimmon). I told them I like the whole situation, how I see the organization. They didn't believe in me for the remainder of my career I guess. It was a little disappointing. But at the same time, I don't hold grudges."

Marchessault is an original member of the Vegas Golden Knights, being acquired from the Florida Panthers in the expansion draft.
