Vancouver Canucks give massive extension to star defender
On Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks acquired a significant portion of their roster when they signed 28-year-old Filip Hronek to a $58 million, eight-year contract extension.
Hronek, 26, has played in 390 games for the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks, tallying 35 goals and 170 assists in that time. This last season, when he finished with 48 regular season points and 45 penalty minutes, was undoubtedly his greatest to date.
The Canucks' first priority this summer seems to be signing Hronek, as the heavy-handed, reliable defenseman really came into his own this past season, finishing with a +33. Hronek provided the Canucks with one of the finest defensive duos in the league with Quinn Hughes, which was a major factor in their success this past season.
As Noah Juulsen and Christian Wolanin are signed through the end of 2025, the Canucks have the chance to keep five of their top six players together for at least another two seasons with Hronek's contract expiring in 2032.
