Seattle Krakens Star Gets Called For An Unusual Penalty
Hockey has its fair share of head-scratching moments, and last night's game between the Seattle Kraken and the Philadelphia Flyers added to that list. Whether it's a split-second decision or an uncommonly called penalty, the sport always keeps fans guessing.
In this matchup at Climate Pledge Arena, Kraken forward Tomas Tatar found himself on the wrong side of an unusual penalty. As the second period neared its end with the Flyers leading 1-0, Tatar, waiting on the boards for a line change, made an unexpected move. Instead of waiting for his feet to touch the ice before playing the puck, he played it while still on the bench.
The officials promptly issued a 2-minute bench minor for Tatar's action. It's a fundamental rule in hockey players can't touch the puck before stepping onto the ice. Tatar, a 12-year NHL veteran, shouldn't be taking penalties like this.
While it's a call you rarely witness, and officials often face criticism, this time, it was the right call given the clear violation of the basic rule.
