Rutger McGroarty caused all sorts of problems for the Winnipeg Jets and now, he has an opportunity to dominate with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

However, there was no guarantee coming into this season that McGroarty would actually get to start the year with the Penguins. Sure, he is immensely talented, but you have to earn your spot. In fact, this was a bit of an issue for him as it pertained to the Jets. One major reason why he wanted out, apart from the vibes, was the fact that he didn't think he would get a real fair shot at playing games.

Well, according to Pittsburgh Hockey Now, his chances of making the Penguins roster aren't amazing right now. In the report, it was noted that the Penguins have been loving the young star's offense so far. In many ways, he could be generational on the offensive side of the puck. However, there is a sense that his defense is a massive weakness and that he will have to develop his defensive game in the AHL.

This is probably the last thing that McGroarty wanted to hear right now. However, you cannot always get what you want, especially in a league like the NHL. Only time will tell whether or not McGroarty will be placed on the opening night roster. For now, however, he will just have to continue developing his game until he is truly ready for the league.

Do you believe that Rutger McGoarty has been grossly overrated by analysts and the league as a whole?
