Jake Allen Reveals How He Truly Feels About Being Traded To The Devils
Jake Allen found himself swapping jerseys at the NHL trade deadline, transitioning from the storied franchise of Montreal to the New Jersey Devils.
Initially hesitant about leaving the Montreal Canadiens, Allen was eventually traded to the Devils, a move that seemed to mark a significant shift in his career trajectory.
Since joining the Devils, Allen has posted a record of 4-2. Despite the team's fading playoff aspirations, he's relishing his time guarding the net for his new squad.
Reflecting on his departure from Montreal, Allen shared,
"You've got to make decisions sometimes."
"Sometimes you've got to be a little bit selfish," said Allen. "Look yourself in the mirror and wonder what's best for you and your family."
Allen, 33, expressed a deep fondness for his tenure with the Canadiens, highlighting the honor of donning what he considers the most iconic jersey in hockey.
"Loved my time as a Hab," he said of pulling on Montreal's red, white and blue threads. "I always will cherish that. Put on probably the most special jersey in hockey, in my books. But you realize in your career, it doesn't last forever.»
With the Canadiens turning to Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau between the pipes, the trade seemed timely for Allen, who has since seen a notable improvement in his performance. Since the move, his save percentage climbed from .892 to .925, and his goals-against average dropped from 3.65 to 2.51.
This trade could prove beneficial for both parties involved. As the Canadiens are rebuilding, Allen is optimistic about making a deep playoff run with the Devils. Despite leaving Montreal, he maintains a positive outlook towards his former team, recognizing that the move was a necessary step in his career.
