Los Angeles Kings star Arthur Kaliyev was in a bit of a contract dispute with the team, and it was unknown whether or not he would be at training camp.

However, earlier in the week, Kaliyev was signed to a one-year deal worth $825K. Once this contract was signed, it became very clear to everyone that Kaliyev would be coming to training camp, and that is exactly what he did. After scoring just 15 points last season, everyone knew that there was a lot riding on Kaliyev for training camp. He is fighting for his NHL career, and he needs to perform well.

Unfortunately, disaster has struck for Kaliyev. According to reports, the Kings star ended up injuring himself on Friday after being hit hard into the boards. He suffered an upper body injury and it is believed that he will need surgery. This will subsequently keep him out for months.

Now, Kaliyev's NHL journey has become that much more difficult. However, that does not mean it's over. If he works hard with his rehab and stays the course, he could come back with a vengeance. Regardless, this is a horrible situation and you really have to feel for the kid.

Do you believe Arthur Kaliyev can still have a solid NHL career? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
