The Detroit Red Wings fell short of their playoff aspirations this season, leaving both fans and players disheartened. Amidst this disappointment, 25-year-old winger David Perron has hinted at the possibility of parting ways with the team.

Recent rumors have linked Perron to the Montreal Canadiens, a tantalizing prospect given his Quebec roots. Perron, hailing from Sherbrooke, just 70 kilometers away from Montreal.
Let's talk about #LGRW forward David Perron speaking on Quebec radio about how much he'd want to play for the #GoHabsGo.
Perron has expressed a desire to don the Canadiens' jersey, calling it a 'dream' opportunity. With the Canadiens in the midst of a rebuild, Perron's veteran presence could prove invaluable, despite the playoffs remaining a few years away.

However, Perron has also acknowledged the Red Wings' interest in retaining him. He's open to discussions and expresses a preference for staying in Detroit if the team remains keen on his services.
«Currently, I have no reason not to focus on the team that trusted me 2 years ago... They want to have me back and I would like to stay.» - David Perron
In a translated statement from French, Perron conveyed gratitude to Red Wings fans while leaving the door open for a potential return to the team this summer.
«I like it here. It's a pretty special place. This building was the best this year. Every single comeback we had, there was a reason we had them. We just felt their support, the fans were incredible, the city in general. For me and my family, we really enjoy it here. There's no reason at this point to think of anywhere else. I hope it works out.»

Despite their playoff miss, the Red Wings showcased their potential this season, with Perron playing a solid role. Mutual interest in a contract extension seems logical, given his contributions. The offseason will reveal whether Perron remains in Detroit or embarks on a new chapter in Montreal.
