BREAKING: Former Stanley Cup Champion Traded To The NY Islanders
The New York Islanders made a move on Friday, acquiring Robert Bortuzzo from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2024 7th round pick. This trade aims to bolster the Islanders, who are in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race and facing challenges with injuries, especially on the blue line.
In the deal, the Islanders traded a seventh-round pick in the upcoming 2024 draft to the Blues for Bortuzzo. The veteran defenseman has seen limited action this season, participating in only four games while spending most of the time as a healthy scratch.
The move to bring in Bortuzzo, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 217 pounds, comes at a crucial time for the Islanders, especially after defenseman Ryan Pulock landed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. With Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho also sidelined, the addition of Bortuzzo provides much-needed size and depth to the Islanders' blue line.
The 34-year-old Bortuzzo had been with the Blues since 2015, notably contributing with two goals in 17 games during their successful Stanley Cup run in 2019.
