In a recent declaration from Deputy NHL Commissioner Bill Daly, it was revealed that expansion is an inevitability at this point.
Fans have been wondering
what cities would work best for expansion. Of course, most would prefer that we get the Quebec Nordiques back, at least in some capacity. However, do not put your life savings on that. Instead, according to NHL Trade Rumor, the cities that are being considered the most right now are Houston and Atlanta.
Gary Bettman has always been interested in building the game down South. Furthermore, he was quite fond of the Atlanta Thrashers, and we're sure he would love to have them make a comeback.
"Rumors within hockey circles have long identified Atlanta and Houston as prime candidates for NHL expansion. Both cities boast thriving sports cultures, state-of-the-art arenas, and untapped fan bases eager for a taste of professional hockey. Atlanta, in particular, presents a compelling case for a NHL franchise. The city's rapid growth and diverse population create a fertile market for the league's expansion ambitions."
It is worth mentioning here that Atlanta as a market has failed twice already. The Atlanta Flames were a massive failure. Meanwhile, the Thrashers were selling cheap tickets because very few people cared to go. The city is huge but prefers other sports like football, basketball, and baseball.
Do you believe it would be smart to give Atlanta a franchise? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
