revealed today what he was feeling in the moment Connor McDavid scored the game-winning goal against Team USA in the Four Nations final.
Thursday night we saw one of the best hockey games in recent memory as Team Canada took on Team USA in an instant classic Four Nations faceoff final.
The game was incredibly exciting all the up to the final moment as the teams were deadlocked at two going into overtime.
This showed up in the ratings as the game turned out to be the most watched hockey game in the United States of all time.
However, the Americans faced heartbreak as it was Canadian superstar Connor McDavid who ended the game with a snipe early in the first overtime period to send his countrymen home happy.
Team Canada captain Sidney Crosby was not on the ice for the goal, but he was watching intently from the best alongside the rest of his teammates.
Today, he revealed what was going through his mind in those first moments immediately after the goal.
He admitted that he wasn't sure who scored at first in all of the excitement, but he quickly realized it was McDavid, and he could not have been more happy for the Oilers captain.
"I wasn't sure right away because guys were jumping everywhere, but I realized it was him. Like I said, couldn't be happier for him. He cares so much. He's an unbelievable player. He's done already a lot in his career. I'm sure this one feels good, and we needed it. We needed it big time."
McDavid and Crosby have become rival figures in Canadian hockey, with Crosby representing the older generation of greats and McDavid representing the new era.
It is heartwarming to see them support each other in such a big way on the world's biggest stage.
It was truly a classic moment in Canadian sports history, one that featured two of the greatest players of all time.
It seems as though Crosby and McDavid will never face each other in a Stanley Cup final, but it is nice to see them both wearing the same jersey.
Hopefully we will get one more chance to see them as teammates next year as the NHL finally allows their players to participate in the upcoming Winter Olympics.
