Eetu Selanne, the son of legendary NHL Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne, has decided to hang up his skates and retire from professional hockey. "Eetulla will not continue (his hockey career), but he will start doing business," Teemu Selanne said.

He added, "Eetu has a strong desire to do that job. He is a hard boy to work with."

Eetu Selanne, 26, had a diverse hockey journey, beginning with five seasons of college hockey in the United States. He played for Northeastern University before moving to Division 3 school Curry College. In the summer of 2022, Eetu transitioned to professional hockey, signing with Mestis club Peliitat, and later joining his brother Leevi at Hokki Kajaanin for the 2023-24 season. Over his career in Mestis, Eetu played 82 games, tallying 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists), accumulating 112 penalty minutes, and finishing with a minus-25 rating.

Teemu Selanne's revelation about his son's retirement highlights Eetu's determination to pursue a new career path outside of hockey. The decision to move into the finance and sales sector demonstrates Eetu's versatility and ambition beyond the rink. This career shift also reflects the growing trend of athletes preparing for life after sports by obtaining higher education and exploring professional opportunities in different fields.

For the Selanne family, this marks a new chapter, with Eetu's transition into the business world likely to be supported by the same dedication and hard work that characterized his hockey career.
