The Ottawa Senators and St. Louis Blues are hoping for a different kind of luck this season after missing the playoffs the previous year. Following a rather quiet first day of free agency, the Senators and Blues have now become trading partners.
The Ottawa Senators are reportedly trading Mathieu Joseph to the Blues, according to a report released today by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The Senators had been trying to move Joseph to clear up cap space and had previously been linked to Seattle Kraken's Brandon Tanev as a possible trade candidate. Last season in 72 games, Joseph scored 11 goals an added 24 assists for the Senators.
Clears salary in Ottawa as Joseph had two more years under contract at a $2.95M AAV.
This move comes as a bit of a surprise as it was reported previously that the Senators had offers for Joseph at last year's trade deadline. Paying to move him is interesting in less to Sens have something lined up.
