You would have assumed that TV ratings in Canada would be through the roof given that the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers are playing for the Stanley Cup this year. There is still hope for the lone Canadian club to return with the Stanley Cup to Canada. But it appears that a sizable segment of Canadians don't genuinely give a damn.
The Globe and Mail claims that when compared to their US counterpart, Canada's finals viewership is not where it ought to be. Something unexpected given how close the Canadian team is to winning the Stanley Cup.
Although numbers are up in Canada, the Globe and Mail suggests that they're not astronomically highin fact, 58% of Canadians haven't seen a Stanley Cup final game. You would assume that the Oilers could increase their attendance in Canada, especially with the world's top player in Connor McDavid, but that isn't the case.
I believe it's safe to say that Canadians no longer care about hockey in the same manner that they once did, regardless of the cause of the low viewership.
